Doug has tried more than 500 jury trials and thousands of non-jury trials. He was a trial lawyer for 7 years, a trial judge for 20 years, an appellate judge for almost 7 years, and a U.S. Administrative Law judge for 13 years. In the latter capacity, he held hearings with attorneys and claimants throughout the U.S.---from inner-city Los Angeles to Philadelphia. He has extensive experience in most aspects of civil law including complex business litigation, tort, negligence and malpractice, insurance and bad faith, real estate, tax, State and Federal administrative law, and dispute resolution. He also has extensive management experience, in both union and non-union settings. He enjoys helping people resolve their differences.
Doug graduated from Lindsay High School and was a National Merit finalist. He then attended OU, OU law school, the National Judicial College, and the University of Kansas Law and Economic Institute. During his 40 year judicial career, he served as the Presiding or Vice-Presiding judge of the Southeastern Oklahoma Administrative district (13 years), the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals, and temporary panels of the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals, Court of Tax Review, and Court on the Judiciary. He was one of the founding members of the Oklahoma Trial Judges Association. He has taught numerous judicial training courses sponsored by the Oklahoma Bar Association and the National Judicial College. In 2008, he was one of two U.S.-sponsored presenters/participants in an international judicial seminar in Ulyanovsk, Russia.
Doug has twice been nominated for appointment to the Oklahoma Supreme Court by the State Judicial Nominating Commission. He has also been cited for “Outstanding Service” to Oklahoma Disabled American veterans, and has been listed in both Who’s Who in American Law (since 1990) and Who’s Who in America (since 2000). His wife Pethi is a practicing attorney focused on real estate and probate. The couple have 5 children.
